Home Learning
Home Learning
Home Learning at Saxon aims to consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and to develop the children’s skills in organising themselves at home and to be responsible; particularly in preparation for secondary school. We also believe that a ‘little and often’ approach has the most impact and also fits in with busy family lives.
Reception
Children are expected to read every day for approx. 10 minutes
Home learning in Reception begins when the children have settled into school and alternates weekly between Maths and Phonics learning. Instructions are uploaded to Tapestry each week.
Year 1 & Year 2
Children are expected to read every day for approx. 10 minutes.
On a Monday, the children are also given their daily maths facts which they are expected to complete Monday-Thursday, returning their learning to school on a Friday.
In addition, each half term, a menu of activity ideas is sent home alongside the tricky words or sounds the children are learning. The children can choose which activities to complete but we expect a minimum of 3 per half term. These are quick, snappy activities which promote the consolidation of the children’s phonics learning. Evidence of completed home learning can be provided to teachers by bringing in photos or written learning. Throughout the half term, the teachers will share children’s home learning with the class but not all pieces of learning will be marked.
KS2
Children are expected to read every day for approx. 10 minutes.
On a Monday, the children are also given their daily maths facts which they are expected to complete Monday-Thursday, returning their learning to school on a Friday.
All children are provided with CGP books, one for Grammar, Spelling & Punctuation and one for Maths. The learning to complete is given on a Thursday and is due in on a Tuesday. We ask for parental support with home learning in KS2 in the form of checking your child’s CGP books when they have completed each page, and discussing any misconceptions with them. Teachers will look at the books to identify misconceptions which will then be addressed in class, meaning individual books will not be marked.
